I was pregnant with my third baby. I had given birth twice before in trust and love. I had attended women in labor. I thought I had attained “empowered woman” status. Then, fairly early in my pregnancy, I came across Jeanine Parvati Baker’s book and found in its pages a deeper trust in birth, in herself, than I had experienced. I wanted to feel that close to my baby. I wanted to provide for my baby, mothering him from the very beginning.
